Like I said in my "about me" section, I'm a Senior at the University of Texas at Arlington, and I'm going for my Bachelors in Political Science. Before I transfered to UTA, I spent 2 years at a community college getting my basics out of the way, and I ended up with an Associates of Arts degree from TCC. I have come to realize that those 2 years at TCC cost the equivalent of one semester at UTA!! I just got online and checked the books I need to get for this fall semester. I'm taking 12 hours (a full load), and I have 9 books. Now as if they don't suck enough out of you paying for tuition and PARKING decals, which cost $112.00, they require you to buy and INSANE number of books!!!!
Now I just did the math, and if by chance I can't find these 9 books anywhere else, my total cost JUST FOR BOOKS will be $306.67!!!!!!!! I about had a heart attack!!! Now my parents are extremely generous and are paying for my tuition, but I have to pay for all my books, and the whole idea of hundreds of dollars coming out of my teeny tiny paycheck is more then I can handle. Not only is gas incredibly expensive, and the price of food is going up, apparently the price of BOOKS are increasing as well!!!! Seriously! What a jip! I'm really starting to wonder if this college thing is all its cracked up to be. I learn next to nothing, I would be better off educating myself, but no, companies want to see a stupid piece of paper that says you're committed to something!! That is total stupidity! I am NEVER going to use this stuff again, and yet I have to pay thousands of dollars for a stupid piece of paper! In reality, how many people really use their degree (other than doctors, nurses, and engineers)? Not many!

$300 for 9 books is nothing! I paid $360 for like 4. Not to mention the $2500 tuition that I paid out of my own pocket with no job, and then the $500 insurance they made me get for being international! At least your parents are helping you out! Count that as a MAJOR blessing! I would have killed for any financial help I could have gotten! :o) Don't you get tuition reimbursement from your job too?
DIS!
I never said I wasn't grateful, in fact, I know I did. I am extremely blessed to have amazing parents who will do that for me. I just think the price of books is a ridiculous rip-off. That's all I was saying, nothing more.
