"The Dark Knight" Movie Review

I've seen my fair share of movies over the years; I guess you could call me a movie buff. As a kid I rented out all the old movies from our local library, and I feel in love with "old" movies starring Clark Gable, Cary Grant, John Wayne, Etc; Don't get me started on the musicals!!!! This fascination has continued throughout my life, and Lover Boy (Chris) and I go to the movies at least once a week on buy one get one half off day. So I consider myself a connoisseur of the theater.

Chris has been dying to see the new Batman movie since he heard about it last year, and so we finally found the time last night to go see it, and this is my take on it.....
Heath Ledger without a doubt steals the spotlight from Christian Bale! His performance is literally unbelievable! But with this unbelievable proformance comes a slew of issues. Of course there is hype around Ledgers performance because of his untimely death, but as I watched this film, I couldn't help but think that his death is a direct effect of the role he played. I'm not saying that he died because of this film, but I do think that the combination of Ledgers already known issues with the sadistic behavior found in this film had a direct effect on his life.
"This is The Joker's movie, and boy does he run with it. Of course, the hype surrounding the film has centered on the performance of Heath Ledger, who died earlier this year from an accidental prescription drug overdose. I suppose many will be morbidly drawn in to seeing the film simply to view the role that supposedly drove Ledger into depression, but people should go just to see a performance that they won't be able to shake from their minds for quite a while. The word that kept popping in to my head to describe Ledger's performance as I watched the film was 'mesmerizing', and that doesn't even come close to doing it justice. The director gave Ledger free reign to dig deep in to his character, and bring out the true essence of The Joker. Let's face it, a man who basically wears a clown suit and goes around ruthlessly killing people is at the very least deranged, and at most purely demonic. Ledger toes the line between sadistic mastermind and homicidal lunatic with a skill that gives you genuine chills. Ledger uses everything at his disposal, from that creepy accent to lip-smacking facial tics, to create a character that would have lived on well after Ledger, even if he had lived a long, full life." I completly agree with the highlighted section above. As I was watching the movie, I literally felt like I was looking into the eyes of the most hideous demon I've ever seen. I was spritually terrified. I could barely watch him. Ledger tapped into something extremely demonic in my opinion. My boyfriend doesn't agree with me, but I haven't felt that kind of spiritual fear in a long time. Maybe I am wrong, but that was my take.
Everything else in the movie was brilliant, and a great watch, but just be warned, this movie is not for Children, or for the spiritually sensitive.
